As part of the Cityloops project, two composting islands were implemented in the city of Porto, contributing to a more circular Porto.

About 120 participants were given the first compost produced from the Community Composting Spaces installed in August in the Amial and Paranhos areas. The bio-waste deposited by the adherents was transformed into 296 kilos of 100% natural compost, in a closing cycle that is the purpose of the project.

Cityloops involves the participation of Porto City Council, Porto Ambiente - Empresa Municipal de Ambiente do Porto, E.M., S.A., LIPOR | Intermunicipalized Waste Management Service of Greater Porto and 2GO OUT Consulting.

This project is led by ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, funded by the Horizonte 2020 Program (H2020 - Grant Agreement 821033) and is being implemented in seven cities (Apeldoorn, Bodø, Højebb-Taastrup, Mikkeli, Porto, Roskilde and Seville) with the objective of closing the cycles of flows and increasing the circularity of materials in urban areas.
